Last Weekend

Here is what I watched over the last weekend.

FRIDAY:
Most of the my time was spent watching stuff on the DVR. I watched and a couple of episodes of Star Trek: Voyager, Phage and Eye of the Needle. The second episode featured Romulans, one of my favorite aliens in the Star Trek universe. I don't think the spin offs of the original series used them to their full potential. The Next Generation had a chance with Commander Tomalak but he sort of disappeared, DS9 did the best job with them during the Dominion War storyline, and of course Voyager really couldn't do much with them since they were stuck in the Delta Quadrant. The movies versions of Romulans were horrible and don't even get me started on the whole Nemesis mess. Star Trek: Enterprise reruns start tonight and I am looking forward to them, maybe they do a better job with the Romulans...so don't spoil it for me if you already know, I have yet to see the series.

I watched a recordings of Thursdays episodes of My Name is Earl and Scrubs. I also watched bits and pieces of Americas Next Top Model (I can't believe it) and I started to watch The Producers on HBO On-Demand but fell asleep 20 minutes into it, I will have to finish it some other time.


SATURDAY :
Only watched 3 things on Saturday. Paleoworld: Mammoths on The Science Channel, the last 30 minutes of Pulp Fiction on Showtime and Spaced on the DVR.


SUNDAY:
I watched a bit more on Sunday than Saturday. I started off by watching part of Sin City on encore, I watched most of the scenes with Marv. I then watched an episode of Star Trek: Voyager, The Cloud. Then I settled down and watched some of the NFL playoffs and saw the Patriots beat the Jets. I flipped over and caught some of Constantine in HBO Zone, I didn't realize the woman (Rachel Weisz) in this movie was the same one who played Evie in The Mummy, she looked much better in The Mummy, decide for yourself:

Later I watched Rome on HBO, getting a refresher since the new season starts next Sunday. I ended the evening by falling asleep while watching Mythbusters on the Discovery Channel.

A good night of TV

Had a pretty good night of television last night. Actually the goodness started yesterday morning as I was getting ready for work. I turned on the TV and low and behold the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers movie was on HBO Family, and it was right at the part with the chick in the green bikini, you can read more about her here. So my morning got off to a good start.

But most of my quality watching came in the evening. I started off by catching some of the middle of The Phantom of the Opera (HBO), Emmy Rossum is great in this, even if she wasn't constantly wet as she was in Poseidon. Ciarán Hinds, Julies Caesar from HBO's Rome, plays one of the theater owners in this movie, who knew that Caesar could sing. Minnie Driver was also in the movie although according to IMDb, she didn't do her own singing which really didn't matter because there was cleavage for as far as the eyes could see in the movie.

The real gem of the evening was The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert on Showtime, I tuned in and caught the last half hour. Besides being a funny movie, General Zod (aka Terence Stamp) and Agent Smith (aka Hugo Weaving) star in this film. That is quite a range of characters for both of them. Check out the pictures below.

Another film I was able to catch the end of was Doom on HBO Zone. When this film first came out I thought The Rock was supposed to be the good guy, boy was I surprised when I finally saw it. Of course the ending was the best part when they started showing from the first person shooter perspective, it would not have been Doom if they didn't have that in there. Karl Urban plays very good tough guys in film, in addition to Reaper in Doom , he was also Vaako in The Chronicles of Riddick, and Eomer in the Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and The Return of the King.

I ended the evening buy watching Futurama (Love and Rocket). Great quote from this episode, Fry, Leela, and Bender are hiding in the shower so the Planet Express Ship cannot hear them:
Leela: "Everyone just pretend to shower."
Fry: "Just like everyday."

Well that was my night I hope you enjoyed it, I know I did.

Not Much Last Night

Didn't watch all that much last night. Sat in the hot tub and watched bits and pieces of America's Next Top Model with my wife (her choice of viewing not mine).

After getting out of the tub I settled down and watched few things on the DVR. First I watched an episode of Stargate SG-1, Scorched Earth. Then I watched Star Trek: Voyager (Parallax).

I am glad that Spike is now showing re-runs of Voyager, this was a great addition to the Star Trek universe and I missed quite a few episodes, so it will be nice to catch up.

Here is my ranking of the Star Trek series:
1. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine --Ferengis and Dabo girls, need I say more
2. Star Trek: Voyager --7 of 9
3. Star Trek: The Next Generation --Picard kicks ass
4. Star Trek --Kirk gets ass
I have left Star Trek:Enterprise off of the list because I only ever saw one episode. But luckily for me (and you) the Sci-Fi channel will be showing re-runs of that starting next week. So hopefully in the future I will be able to add it to my rankings.

Interesting things during my hiatus

While I took a break from this blog, I did not take one from watching TV. Here are some of the things that I watched during that time.

Over the Thanksgiving holiday I had the opportunity to watch the entire season of Eureka. This is a great show, and nothing else like it on TV. As an added bonus is that all the women on Eureka are smoking hot. Please have a look for yourself below.

















I continued watching Survivor and I was correct in picking Yul to win back on September 29. click here if you don't believe me.

I continue to watch Stargate SG-1 and Futurama. I was glad to see Emmit Smith win Dancing With the Stars despite his being a form Dallas Cowboy. My beloved Redskins went down the tubes, although I didn't get a chance to see them too often (damn me for living in Ravens country).

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire -- good but not great, could have been better
Phat Girlz -- start good but ended kind of preachy
Cars -- good
You, Me and Dupree -- very funny
Click -- funny but much different than I expected
V for Vendetta -- very good one of the better comic book movies
Firefly episodes on DVD -- one of the best Sci-Fi show since Babylon 5

Now this is by no means a comprehensive list of what I watched but only a few things that I could remember.

Slow night

I only watched 2 things this evening:

1. I watched a recorded episode of Stargate SG-1, The First Ones. Not a great episode, but not one of the worst ones either.

2. I watched the last half of Parallel Universe on The Science Channel.

I also did a little channel surfing.

Not an auspicious start

Well my first day in the new year did not start off well for my TV viewing life, I spent a great deal of the day at the auto mechanics trying to figure out why my car wouldn't start, and rotating my tires. So at about 2:30pm I was able to sit down in front of the boob tube and get my watch on.

Here is a list of what I was able to watch Monday afternoon and evening, in no particular order.

I watched the ending of Evolution on DVD, I bought a copy of it at Wal-Mart for $4.44, can you believe it? Such a great movie for such a low price. When I saw it on the rack I could not pass it up. Other than The Replacements this is probably Orlando Jones best work.

I also watched Madea's Family Reunion on DVD. This was one of about 8 DVDs my wife (God bless her) bought at Blockbuster during a used DVD sale they were having. Madea is a great character and one of the funniest on stage or screen, I first got to see her when I was in prison one weekend (I was working there, not staying there). The inmates were watching videos of the stage productions of Madea and I was hooked.


I watched a few items on the DVR: Two episodes of American Dad and an episode of Scrubs. I recently discovered (within the last two weeks) what a great show Scrubs is, I wish I would have started watching it years ago. Hilarious!

I did watch some regular TV as well. I watched parts of the Mythbusters marathon on the Discovery Channel, and parts of the 100 Greatest Discoveries series on the Science Channel. I also watched Modern Marvels: Distilleries 2 on the History Channel, this episode covered distilleries and spirits that were overlooked in Distilleries 1, such as Cognac, Absinthe, Moonshine and liqueurs. I ended the evening by watching a great episode of Futurama on The Cartoon Network, Roswell that Ends Well.

New Year and New Start

It has been sometime since I posted any TV related info on this blog. Well I am happy to say that I am back at it and will keep you posted to all of my television viewing pleasure.

The Last Few Days and Something Profound

Haven't posted since Monday morning, so here goes:

On Monday I noticed that when I am watching TV I spend a lot of time watching nothing. By this I mean that I channel surf a lot while looking for something to watch. For instance I spent a little over an hour on Monday watching nothing just surfing. Well that's my one profound thought for the month, I promise to have as few of these a possible.

Now on to what I actually watched while watching TV. I watched Dino Lab on the Discovery Science Channel. Cool CGI of living dinosaurs being tested in a laboratory. I watched a DVR recording of Stargate SG-1 episode Need. I always wondered why they never use the sarcophagus (pictured on left) more in SG-1. I mean you have this piece of alien technology that basically heals any injury and bring the recently deceased back from the dead, would this be a nice thing to keep handy? But, it turns out, those who use it become mentally unhinged. Clever way of writing the sarcophagus out of the show, it would have been easy to keep it around and use it anytime one of the characters got injured. I also watched half an episode (That's Lobstertainment) of Futurama.


On Tuesday I watched to DVR recordings of Stargate SG-1 episodes; Politics and Within the Serpents Grasp. Politics was basically a clip show of the first season. I watched Dancing With The Stars, but it just was not the same with out Sara. I ended Tuesday evening by watching The Planets on the Science Channel as I went to sleep.


On Wednesday I woke up early and happened to catch the last half of Young Frankenstein. The rest of the day I watched the documentary, Dust to Glory on Showtime, about the Baja 1000. South Park on Comedy Central, and a DVR recording of the nights episode of Lost. I started to watch an episode of SG-1 but fell asleep about five minutes into it so I will have to watch it another time.


Got up extra early on Thursday (4:30am) and could not get to sleep so I watched Barbarians on the History Channel and what may possibly be the worst movie ever, Showdown, on HBO Zone. I was fortunate to only get to see the last 20 minutes. What caught my attention about this movie was the fact that it was starring Billy Blanks, yes THAT Billy Blanks, can you guess his character's name....BILLY and a karate teacher, quite a stretch. This was basically a complete rip-off of Karate Kid, except this sucked.
