Watched Charlie and the Chocolate Factory today at 12:00pm on HBO Family. I prefer the Johnny Depp version to the Gene Wilder version. As I was watching I was beginning to wonder what Burton's fascination with teeth is. Teeth are featured prominently in the film. Wonka has the biggest white teeth in a movie since Matt Dillion in "There's Something About Mary." Other instances in which teeth were featured: Mrs Bucket (Helena Bonham Carter) has large teeth; Young Willy in headgear; Wilbur Wonka is a dentist; and the very sexy Missy Pyle, as Mrs. Beauregarde, has a close up of her teeth covered in cherries.

Maybe it's cause of the whole idea that the movie is cenetred around this factory that produces sweets, which, when constantly eaten, produce cavities. Perhaps the teeth thing is some kind of subliminal message to children that they can enjoy sweets, but if they're willing to show their teeth, they can't overdo it.
I dunno. It's just a theory.
